For about ten years, I’ve kept a quiet habit: when a verse or a quote stops me, I write it down, one to an index card. I keep them to memorize, to read whenever I get a moment, and to recite to myself when I need them most. For a long time it was just for me. Until it wasn’t.
A few years ago, I started writing them for my two daughters. Once a week or so, I’d tuck a card somewhere in their room, on a pillow, inside a book, propped by the mirror, and let them find it. A verse. A few words. Something I wanted them to carry.
I didn’t think much of it, until they showed me they’d been keeping every one. Saved in little stacks, held onto. Those small cards had come to mean something: a reminder, on the days they needed it, that they were thought of and loved.
That’s when it hit me. If a handful of index cards could do that, how many people have someone they’d love to reach that way, and never quite get around to it?
A grandchild. A friend in a hard season. A kid away at school. Life is busy, and good intentions are quiet. So I built Faith to One to do what those index cards did, without the part that keeps most of us from starting. You choose the verses and write why they made you think of someone.
